Wait a minute… Colorado’s a long way from the ocean…
Had my first Rocky Mountain Oysters last night.  I can’t believe it took me over a year living in Colorado to try this local fare.
For those who aren’t aware: Rocky Mountain Oysters, aka Bullfries, are bovine testicles.  Sliced thin and deep fried.  Most often served with cocktail sauce…
(yes its cocktail sauce and balls – get the giggles out so you can read on…)
Anyway, what was it like?
It was decent, the ones I had were OK but I’m sure they could be done really well.  This is my first experience with them so take my opinions with a grain of salt (I try to avoid holding single experiences too high)
Texturally it was pretty good.  I’d say its like heart but a little less chewy.
Flavor wise – very mild.  Its not like Liver where you have distinct flavors to work with.  Its almost like a chicken breast where it doesn’t seem to have much flavor on its own but will go whatever direction you push it.
Overall, it has potential.  I’d like to try them done by someone who makes them a little different.
